Thoughts on Universal Healthcare for the US

I believe that we can all agree on something and that is the well being of every person here in the United States of America. With that being said, there is one thing that is ruining lives of people in America and destroying lives as well, and that one thing is the health care system. Don’t get me wrong, at least we have a health system, but I believe it doesn’t truly help every single person in America and it has potential to do so.

Many people can be saved if there was a universal healthcare system, and instead of getting rejected from hospitals because of no insurance, doctors would be able to do their job without worrying about financial frenzies and do there jobs. Sure, taxes are the main issue on why people believe it is a bad idea, but is it not worth it to help those in need no matter what instead of abandoning those to die? I’m sure all of us were raised better than that.

“U.S. patients are spending almost as much for their care in time costs as they are spending in out-of-pocket cash. And if the policy wonks have their way, things will get much worse. Most of them believe that "fully insured" Medicaid patients, waiting all day for care in an emergency room, are better off than an "underinsured" person with a high deductible private plan, buying care out of pocket at a walk-in or urgent care clinic with no wait at all.” (Goodman, 2009) Not only can this problem be fixed but a lot of our money can be saved instead of spending money on ridiculous prices such as medicine and insurance.

“America is facing a health care crisis. As of 2006, 47 million U.S. residents have no health insurance, and the numbers keep growing. That's 47 million people who face bankruptcy if they get sick—or who might avoid seeking treatment altogether. Meanwhile, a few big health care players are making big, big profits—at the expense of working families.” (p.1 para.1, 2 Why is the Healthcare system broken?) People losing jobs in this economy now are suffering the most because without a job, there is no money to pay for health insurance.

To say that people who don’t have healthcare is another persons problem and not their own is absurd. How can we let down people like that? Did we do this to people in need when September 11th happened? If I remember correctly something was done to help those families in need. Why can’t we have that same American Patriotism for people who are in need of it now and who are in desperate need of it.

With a reform plan by Obama-Biden, maybe something good can come out of what is happening now in the United States. From the bad economy, to the new disease called the Swine Flu hitting parts of the U.S.and originating from Mexico. If we can all work together for this equal opportunity, then anything is possible.
